From the journal of Tristan Ellis:
We arrived in the forest. I was still carrying this foolhardy warrior on my back from before, and he was growing heavier by the moment. I saw a pile of leaves ahead that functioned as a poorly designed pit. I handed Drank over to Kaz and jumped over the trap. I almost fell in, but caught myself once more and moved forward.
The floor below me disappeared and I felt a cold clang as I landed in a pile of gold and weapons. The insane jester greeted us, “Welcome to my shop!”
From this strange shop I purchased four healing potions. He also explained that he had more technology from this material place. He called them bombs, and showed how they erupted with explosive force. I scooped up four of those as well, seeing how useful they could be…much better than this pathetic “gun”. Wanting to get an advantage, I also bought smoke pellets that would make it easy to hide even in the daylight.
I was suspicious, but I could see the forest through the portal that he had somehow formed. Me and Kaz stepped through the portal, and the door blinked away behind us.
Damn, I wanted that warrior’s strange sword…I may have to find him again some other time.
Bats flew by as we traveled further though the forest. We heard soldiers, crusaders, enemies, (whatever I should call them) in the distance coming closer.
Kazuo jumped into a tree and crouched on the treetop. He told me he saw wolves hunting animals and three more crusaders. I offered to fight the crusaders and told Kaz to go ahead and scout. I ran forward and tried to hide, but they noticed me and aimed their muskets. However, I threw a dagger into one of them. It sunk into his shoulder, near his neck, and he looked hurt. Aisling tried to disarm them, but failed.
I cast a spell of calm and managed to stupefy one of the guards into a calm stupor. He drops his weapon and sits down. The remaining one tries to hit but he only stabs darkness. I run at the remaining one and slash at him with a shimmering [magical] blade, Aisling knocks him out with a slice to the neck. The only one left is the one who is calmed. I took my knife from the first man and used it to murder the calm one. [+1 evil]
Aisling tells me she feels bad for these men, but I feel no mercy towards those who get in my way.
I take 400 gold pieces and 3 musket balls [now having 60] from the bodies.
[not noticing that one has escaped]
I saw a blonde haired thief laying on the ground being healed by Kaz. I don’t trust him.
Aisling notes small mountains in the distance, caves [140 ft away], a lake [70 ft away], and a small white figure that glimmered in her eye. Blaze, the rouge, wrapped some cloth around his shoulder and leg, both badly damaged in a fight with a wild boar.
[he uses all daily healing points for skill based.]
We quietly approached the lake, and I was surprised (for lack of a stronger word…) to see a shimmering unicorn drinking from the water. I knew enough about unicorns to know that it would repel any energy it wasn’t comfortable with. Such a bright creature could never understand the shadows, so its aura forced me back. More crusaders approached, idiotically announcing that the noble steed belongs to them. They could not even touch its glittering mane, their fledgling will forced them to stand away from it just as much as I. I hid in the bushes while Aisling was able to fly through the barrier created by this grand beast. She flew past the men and gave this newcomer Blaze a chance to get a solid strike at them as they turned their back. Kaz did as he always did, and smashed their faces so hard that they twirled in the air like pinwheels. I called my familiar back and infused a spell of fatigue within her. She glowed slightly red as she flew at them. Unfortunately, the crusaders were used to her rapid movements by now, and she had a hard time landing a hit. I ran around the barrier while the other two continued brawling. I made a accurate shot towards one man’s vitals, nearly finishing him off with one hit. Aisling flew upwards and barrel-rolled to end this, but the man was able to duck. Blaze locked down that man’s blade so that I could get another strike to put an end to these foolish zealots.
I made friends with this unicorn, treating it with respect. She said that we should leave the area of her dominion and move to the caves that were about 50 feet away. Aisling flew ahead and reported that bloody bodies covered the outside of the cave. In fact, there was even one man who was still alive as a half-corpse…a crawling upper body. I asked the Unicorn, who I named Katrina, to heal my friend Blaze. She covered his body with radiant light and we went on our way.
